Houston head coach Stephen Silas returned to the Rockets bench Tuesday in a 111-97 home win over Phoenix, two days after the death of his father, famed NBA player and coach Paul Silas.
The Rockets head coach missed Sunday`s 97-92 loss to Milwaukee, which came hours after his father`s death was reported.
During the pre-match press conference, Stephen Silas thanked for the kind words and support he and his family have received in recent days.
I am very proud to be my father`s son.
I`m proud that people see him in me. When my time comes, I want people to say the same thing about me that they`ve been saying about him for the last couple of days, " Stephen Silas said.
Paul Silas has died at the age of 79. He was a two-time NBA champion with Boston (1974, 1976) and one with Seattle (1979), a two-time All-Star and a two-time All-Defensive First Team selection.
As a head coach, Silas led the Clippers, Charlotte, New Orleans and Cleveland, and served as an assistant for several teams. LeBron James spent his first and most of his second season in the NBA under Silas with the Cavaliers.
