According to Puck News, streaming service Netflix is close to concluding a contract with the NFL to buy exclusive rights to broadcast two regular season games on December 25.
The NFL usually doesn`t play games on Wednesdays, but this year it made an exception for Christmas games. The rights to show two matches were put up for auction.
Previously, former NFL MVP Boomer Esaison also said that Netflix could get the rights to show Christmas games.
Netflix is becoming an active participant in the football market. Last year, the service released the documentary series Quarterback starring Patrick Mahomes, Kirk Cousins and Marcus Mariota. Last Sunday, the show The Greatest Roast Ever aired live on Netflix, starring Tom Brady.
In the 2024 season, three other streaming services will exclusively broadcast matches. Peacock will show the Packers-Eagles game in Brazil in the first week of the regular season, ESPN+ will show one of the international games, and Amazon will stream games by american football livescore on Thursdays and one wild card matchup in the playoffs.
