Novak Djokovic explained why he invited Andy Murray to the team. I was thinking about next season and trying to figure out what I needed at this stage of my career. I ended my long and successful collaboration with Goran Ivanisevich in March. So it took me six months to think carefully about whether I needed a coach, and if so, who it would be.
I was looking through different names and realized that the ideal coach for me now would be someone who went through the same experience as me. Perhaps this is a multiple Grand Slam winner and former world number one.
Suddenly I thought of Andy Murray. It caught him a little off guard because he wasn`t expecting it. But we quickly got in touch and a few days later he agreed.
I`m very happy about this. Our cooperation surprised both me and everyone around me. But it`s great for tennis. He was one of my main rivals. We are the same age, we have played on the biggest stages of our sport. I can`t wait to get on the court and start preparing for next season.
